Problems setting IP address [ 10396 ] [ Back to Forum ]
I am having problem connecting to my xbox with ftp. For some reason I don't seem to be able to set my IP address. I try to set it through:

Applications ==> File Managers ==> ftp(PC) ==> Settings

I set the IP address as detailed in documentation, save the settings and reset the machine. But when i go back into ftp(PC) the IP: displayed on the skin is blank.

If i go into Media Centre, the IP address in there is also blank.

Am I doing something wrong...missed something....any ideas ??

Thanks

if you have a link [ 10398 ]
you need to set the setting

'use static ip' to yes

unless you are running a dhcp server then you want it on no.

then it will assign the ip you give it in the settings

ftp problem [ 10399 ]
thanks for the quick response

Sorry, network cable unplugged (didn't realise that would make a difference), setting now show:

Line Status: 100/Full duplex

Use Static IP: Yes

IP Address: 192.168.1.71

Unfortunately i am still having problems connecting to the xbox. When I ping the xbox the request times out and when I try FlashPXP the the connection fails.

The Local Area Connection properties for TCP\IP are:

IP Address: 192.168.0.2

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Default gateway: Blank

Have successfully connected a friends xbox to his PC, but for some reason even following the same procedure mine will not......Any ideas ??

Thanks

ip address [ 10400 ]
change your xbox ip to

IP Address: 192.168.0.71

the first three numbers need to be the same as your pc

I tried that shindog, but still no joy with either a ping or FlashFXP...very frustrating....any other setting on the xbox that are likely to be causing a problem???

sounds ok [ 10411 ]
your xbox ip is 192.168.0.x

your pc ip is 192.168.0.y

you have a mac address

should be that simple

do you have a zone alarm program or something running blocking ports?

ZoneAlarm the culprit [ 10412 ]
Hi Shindog, ZoneAlarm seems to have been the culprit. Once I re-booted my PC and disabled ZoneAlarm I was able to connect without any problems. I had tried to connect previously after disabling ZoneAlarm, but not after a clean re-boot.

Thanks for all the help

port 21 [ 10413 ]
you could probably leave it running if you can get it to ignore port 21 which is what ftp uses

well done anyway!

link? [ 10397 ]
when you go into the settings section of the ftp server does it say whether you have a link?

it should say something like 10/100mbps
