Sidewalk Scrapers 10.11.08

OK it's another week im running short today on typing time ... was out catching a few snaps around town ... and finding some interesting places to take a friend who will be visiting soon from aus! Check back for more details on these pics tomorrow ...

This pic is around the 'hutong district' of beijing. not far from the famous drum tower ... a little serenity contrasting such a busy city.

what where you doing on 9 11? or is that 11 9? any way i was with laopo :)

this is an interesting bit of subway action ... its the huan che jan (transfer station) ... on the way into the city from out at fruit park (guo yuan) the subway goes from being on concrete pillars to being undergound ... you have to platform hop ... so what are all those gates for? think of them as like a human cattle press ... we wouldn't want all those eager beavers on their way to work crushing themselves ...

and there is a lot of them at rush hour! but believe it or not every one flows through within a few minutes! so many peeps you can even notice the guiding gates ... they have a saying out here about large crowds ..... it translates to something like ' mountains and oceans of people'.

Theres a lot of guards, military guys, security guards and govrnment workers. These guys are some kindof military elite guards i think. Or perhaps their in training. Thats why they need the stack hats :) ... ten hut!

and now onto todays funny thing ....

Shenme Dongxi!!!

"every day in china you see something (shenme dongxi) you don't see every day" [one billion customers; auth : James Mcgregor ..lessons from the frontlines of doing busines in china]. This little section is dedicated to that weird or strange thing which inadvertently you see everyday in china .. so to prove a point i'll see if i can find one 'mai tian do' (every day).

No Goo on Our Shoo! 10.11.08

Hao de! (OK!) todays shenme dongxi is a sidewalk goo remover! I've mentioned this one before but today i got to see it in action!Lucky me! It's been put to use in the high traffic areas in central beijing ... gotta keep that sidewalk clean! its a great little idea ... its just a simple little battery operated 'wire brush' . I think the general idea is that the goo remover machine operator loosens the goo then the accompanying sanitary worker there collects it.

and here it is a little closer!
and if youre really interested here is a video!
